Hi All,

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoy today’s topic and feel free to make a comment or ask a question, as reader participation is highly recommended.

A few weeks ago I made a post about “Alternate Ways To Make Money Online” and one of the streams of income that I listed was buying and selling domain names.

Today I wanted to expand on that subject a little more as a viable and like all types of business, risky but very rewarding online business.

In the early days, the big thing in domain buying and selling was to think up of a domain name that had appeal, originality and was short in length. At that time it was not hard to do and still maybe done today, but I don’t think with the same success as then.

So what can you do in this day and age to capitalize on the domain name market. Let’s take a look.

New Domains - Yes, this area of the buying and selling domains may be close to dead, but it can, and is, still being done. Don’t expect huge returns though.

Buy and Hold - Just like with any type of real estate, if you see some available land going cheap that you believe may be in demand in the future, nab it and hold on to it and reap the rewards later.

Rescue a Domain - This is done by looking at expired or soon to expire domains that many domain selling services have. Every once in a while you will find a domain with a high PR. When you see one of those, grab it, develop it and put on the market as a fully functional, high PR, with traffic, website and again rake in the cash.

Domain Flipping - These are not to hard to find and sometimes are the best way to get high ROI. Find a website that is for sale that has indications of being in distress. For instance you may find websites that may have pages with errors, forums not monitored lately, not functioning correctly or just abandoned. Even if it is not for sale, try and contact the owner and make an offer and you will be surprised at what answer you get.

Once you have one of these distressed websites, go in and gut it out and redo the whole thing, then resell it for a profit. That is all there is to it.

You have to remember that it may take a while to get the website up to selling speed. You want to have good traffic, some income and a good design to be able to get the most out of your investment.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and good luck in the future if you take a stab at buying and selling domains. This can be an interesting , fun and profitable addition to your online business. As always we look forward to hearing from you. So, feel free to leave a comment or ask a question.

Interesting post. The decision to get internet real estate made my partner launch 30 new blogs that have different keywords associated with each. Later (not sure when) each will become a landing page associated with the domain name and product, but we will already have our bit of the net because of the blogs.

LOTS of work to run 30 blogs for something coming at an unsure date, hopefully it will pay off.

I stumbled it and included it in my blog carnival.

    Keep up the good work.
